CE STANDARD FOR MOTORCYCLE TROUSERS & JACKETS

Standard EN 13595

Standard EN 13595 dating from 2002 “Protective clothing for motorcyclists” - Jackets, trousers and one or two-piece suits, defines the precise, replicable framework based on scientific studies of accidentology for the conduct of tests to certify protective clothing for motorcyclists.

CUTTING THE CLOTHING BY AREA ACCORDING TO THE RISK CATEGORY:

During an accident, the risks of impact and abrasion are variable on an item of clothing. The clothing is then cut at 4 areas according to the risk category:

• The location of area 1 represents a high impact risk: area 1 must be provided with protectors designed to absorb shocks
• The locations of area 1 and area 2 represent a high abrasion risk
• The locations of area 3 represent a moderate abrasion risk
• The locations of area 4 represent a low abrasion risk

MAIN TEST CRITERIA FOR MOTORCYCLE TROUSERS & JACKETS

The products must meet specific tests

MECHANICAL TESTS

• Resistance to abrasion

• Resistance to tearing

• Resistance to cutting from an impact

• Resistance to rupture (seams, zips, material of the different areas of the clothing)

• Absorption of impact energy with EN-1621-2012 approved protectors

CHEMICALS TESTS

•
Colours fastness

• PH of the leather

RETENTION TESTS

•
Adjustment and ergonomics

• Retention of the clothing

• Retention of the protector against shocks
